We recommend using a private Wi-Fi network, also known as a dedicated network, for your senior's ViewClix Frame.
Previously, you needed to get internet from the cable or phone company through a wired connection in the wall. Now, you are also able to get high-speed internet from one of the biggest mobile providers, Verizon, without the hassle of a wall cable.
A private network offers several benefits compared to a shared network. Here are some advantages of a private network:
1) Reliable Performance: Shared networks can sometimes suffer from performance issues due to congestion caused by multiple users accessing the network simultaneously. In a private network, you have dedicated bandwidth and resources, ensuring consistent and reliable performance.
2) Increased Privacy: In a shared network, other users have access to the same network infrastructure, which can raise privacy concerns. With a private network, you have exclusive access to the network resources, minimizing the risk of unauthorized surveillance or data interception.
3) Greater Control: With a private network, you have complete control over the network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and network configurations. This allows you to perform your own troubleshooting and maintenance if there is a temporary issue with the network as described in our troubleshooting page. With a shared network, there is little to nothing that you can do when the network is experiencing issues as it is managed by another entity.
While private networks offer significant advantages, they do typically require more resources and investments compared to shared networks. It is always our recommendation to take advantage of programs and deals that may apply to your senior when shopping for their network such as the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), discounted rates by bundling service (phone, cable, etc.), and senior discounts.
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP):
ACP is a government initiative aimed at providing affordable and reliable internet connectivity to underserved communities and low-income households. The ACP offers financial assistance to eligible individuals or households to help cover the cost of internet service. This can include discounted monthly fees or subsidized data plans, making internet access more affordable for those who may have been unable to afford it previously. Click here to see if your senior qualifies for this program.
Many major internet service providers and mobile wireless providers take part in ACP and there is a website to lookup the participating companies near your frame https://cnm.universalservice.org/.
Shared/Public/Guest Networks
A shared, community Wi-Fi network may be used, but shared networks may have limited performance which can decrease the quality and reliability of video calling. Here is a link to our shared network page with more information: https://www.viewclix.com/shared-network-info/
